Autism Spectrum Disorders and College – Research Participants Needed
“My name is Fleur Wiorkowski and I am working on my Ph.D. in educational psychology at Capella University. I would like to invite you to participate in my dissertation research. I am conducting a study to find out what individuals with autism spectrum disorders who have attended college have to say about their experience. I am on the spectrum myself and have noticed that colleges do not understand autism and the unique needs the spectrum brings to the university experience. I hope to use this study to bring the voices of those in with autism spectrum disorders into the research conversation regarding higher education.
Study participation will involve an approximately 30 minute phone conversation to select a location and time for us to talk about your experience. I will come to a location you choose to conduct your interview. You will be asked to write about your experiences in college prior to the interview if you want to, but this is not required. You can also bring any personal works, such as art or poetry, that you think express something about your college experience. During your interview, we will talk about your experience in college for around 1 hour. A few weeks after your interview I will ask you to review my notes about your interview to make sure I understood what you were telling me. While I have a few questions to start the conversation, you will be able to talk about any aspects of your experience that you
would like to.”
Please contact Fleur if you are an adult on the autism spectrum, have attended college/university (at any time in your life – you don’t have to be enrolled right now) and are interested in participating in the research. Her contact information can be found by following this link .
