Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children

In 1979, four families in Montgomery County, Maryland brought to life a shared vision of providing programs that would “enable individuals with autism to reach their highest potential and contribute as confident individuals to their community.” The result was Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC), a private, non-profit agency which provides direct services to children and adults with autism across the lifespan.

One of the services it provides is a Supported Employment program – the first of its kind in the nation. The program enables many CSAAC individuals to perform jobs within the community and at over 40 different employment locations, according to its website. Adults with autism obtain job training and work alongside non-disabled co-workers while under the supervision of CSAAC  job coaches, until natural support is obtained within the community.

Worksites include more than 35 private and public businesses, nonprofit organizations and agencies, such as TJ Maxx and Home Depot.
