Request for Autism Social Skills Information

“My son is 18 and is a junior in college. He has autism but is very high functioning. He is in a band, a social club, and writes for the school paper. He also does illustrations for a magazine. He still needs help with conversation and approaching friends or calling to make plans to do things together with anyone. Do you have anything that I could look into for him? I saw this boot camp on a news program last week.”

We don’t know of anything (other than what has been posted on the site already), but perhaps someone will read this and have some ideas.
    Where are you located?

If you find out about any programs, please share the information with us!

I’d like to hear more about your son’s activities, especially about the magazine illustrations.

In some cities, there are social skills groups run by experienced autism therapists for various age groups.

I’d check out Michelle Garcia-Winner’s material. I think her website is http://www.socialthinking.com.

Here in Austin, we’re lucky enough to have a small business that teaches and facilitates social interaction. They’re doing a great job with children and adults at all levels.

How about getting him involved in a community play where he would have to have more interaction with others.
